NINTH ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11 TO BE OBSERVED IN WAYNE COUNTY - 9/07/2010 |
Honesdale – The Wayne County 9/11 Memorial Committee would like to remind area residents that Saturday, September 11, 2010 is the ninth anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York City, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. All are encouraged to observe this somber yet important anniversary. September 11th has been proclaimed Patriot’s Day by the United States Congress and they have declared that all flags be flown at half-staff that day. The committee would like to ask that you observe a moment of silence at 9:00 AM to honor those who perished in the attacks. Please wear red, white and blue to work or school to show support for those who lost their lives on 9/11/01 and to honor the heroes who worked to save them. In addition to the personal observance, the Committee will hold a silent gathering at the site of the Wayne County 9/11 Memorial located at the corner of Court and 9th Streets, Honesdale at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2010. If you can not attend the morning gathering, you are invited to visit the memorial at any time to honor these very special people on this very memorable day. |

| SHERIFF'S OFFICE --NEW PERMITS FOR LICENSE TO CARRY A FIREARM - 9/02/2010 |
The Sheriff’s Office will be implementing new equipment and software for the processing of a License to Carry a Firearm. The installation will occur on September 24th. The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, who oversees the upgrade, requires that no new applications, or renewal applications be process at least one week prior to implementation. Therefore, the Sheriff’s Office will be unable to process applications starting Friday, September 17th until Monday September 27th. Individuals can still drop off their completed application forms during this time. Anyone interested in applying can still pick up the application forms at the Sheriff’s Office, or they have been made available on-line. Applicants can visit the County web-site at: http://www.co.wayne.pa.us, click on “County links” then “Sheriff” and then go to the section titled: “License to Carry a Firearm Information and Application Forms”. The forms can then be printed from the site, completed, and then dropped off at the Sheriff’s Office along with the initial $5.00 fee. | 2010 Hershey Track & Field - 8/31/2010 |
Approximately 200+ young people from Wayne County participated in the 2010 Hershey Track & Field Program sponsored by the Wayne County Commissioners. Many of these youngsters qualified and participated in the regional meet in July and later qualified for the state competition which was held at Penn State University. The Commissioners recognized those who placed at the state level by presenting plaques and certificates. The participants are as follows: Jacob Wacker, Wallenpaupack 1st place in both the 400M and 800M, Gina Debastiani, Western Wayne 2nd 50M, Emily Allegrucci, North Pocono, 6th place Long Jump. Molly Jansco, Wallenpaupack, 2nd place Softball throw and the 4x100m relay team of Brianna Tuite, Grace Alvarez, Grace Hollister and Morgan Wagner from Western Wayne, place 5th.

| EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER OPEN HOUSE - 8/25/2010 |
The Wayne County Emergency Operations Center will be hosting Public Open House tours of the new facility on Friday August 27, 2010 from Noon till 4:00 p.m. and again on Saturday August 28, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tour our Emergency Management Offices and the 911 Dispactch Operations. An official ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. The Center is located on Volunteer Drive, next to the Wayne County Recycling Center. Volunteer Drive is located off of Route 652 in Berlin Township, approx. 2 miles from the Route 6 Intersection in Indian Orchard. |

| Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Week 2010 - 7/22/2010 |
On Tuesday July 20, 2010, the Wayne County Commissioners declared the week of July 18 - July 24, 2010 as Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Week in Wayne County. Pictured above are the officers and support staff of the Wayne County Adult Probation Department. The department performs pre-sentence investigations and supervision of adult offenders for the Court of Common Pleas. The department also collects fines and costs as well as working with other divisions of the court system and law enforcement community to provide safer neighborhoods and to give offenders a second chance and be productive members of society. Congratulations for a job well done! |

| Dyberry Day Camp 2010 - 7/15/2010 |
The Wayne County Commissioners were pleased to be a sponsor of the Dyberry Day Camp for 2010. Pictured above are some of the campers who were participating in field day on Thursday July 15, 2010. The Dyberry Day Camp is sponsored by the ARC of Wayne County and has been serving children with physical and mental challenges for 38 years. The Camp provides physical exercise, art's and crafts, visits from many community volunteers and time for the children just to be kids. |
